The Women in Music Mentor program is a four-year nation-wide mentoring and training program aimed at empowering women in the Australian music industry. The program will run once a year from 2020 to 2023 and is designed to enable women to navigate their career and leadership pathways, develop professional decision making, governance, commercial and corporate engagement skills.

With a focus on developing skills in contract negotiation, financial literacy, marketing and leadership,  the program will pair mentees with mentors based on the goals the mentee wishes to achieve. Mentors commit to conducting meetings with their mentees and providing mentees with guidance and practical advice over the duration of the program to help them take their careers to the next level.

In addition to the mentorship, the Women in Music Mentor program will deliver professional development training opportunities, for mentors and mentees. This will include workshops with industry professionals and leaders.

The program is open to female, female-identifying and non-binary participants working in or aspiring to work in creative (solo artists, band members, songwriters), technical (engineers, producers, etc) and /or business roles (managers, promoters, record labels, etc) within the Australian music industry.

Whether you are just starting out or looking to take your career to the next level, all applications will be considered, and those at any stage in their career are encouraged to apply.

First Nations people, people with disabilities, those who identify as culturally diverse and those who reside in regional Australia are strongly encouraged to apply.

As a Women in Music Mentor program participant, successful applicants will be individually matched with a mentor based on the assistance the mentee is seeking to further their career. Each mentorship is offered for a 5-month period in which mentors and mentees must undertake a minimum of 4 x one-hour meetings.

In addition to the mentoring relationship, mentees and mentors will also be invited to attend curated professional development delivered as part of the Women in Music Mentor program.

Participants are selected through a competitive application process in which applications will be assessed by an independent industry advisory committee based on the strength of the following:

  •  – Outcomes the participant hopes to achieve as a result of being mentored over a 5-month period
  •  – Outline of how the participant believes the mentorship will benefit their career

If selected as a participant of the Women In Music Mentor program, participants will need to submit a report at the conclusion of their mentorship addressing their projected and actual outcomes from the program and how the mentorship has helped them grow their careers in the Australian music industry.
