Want to turn your music passion into a profession? Music SA is now offering mid-year entry into their talented Certificate IV in Music Industry course starting Monday 17th July.

In a Certificate IV in Music Industry, Music SA students study, perform and work in hands-on roles in music and festival management. With both full and part time options available, participants are given the opportunity to put their emerging skills into practice through Music SA’s volunteer placement program.

Current and emerging musicians, artist, event managers, promoters and prospective students interested in all areas of the music industry work towards presenting a detailed music business plan known as their core project.

Tamlyn Neck is a 23-year old emerging events manager currently studying the Certificate IV in Music Industry. She hopes her studies will give her the skills and experience to put on her first live music event. “The focus of my core project is to establish a new boutique music festival in my hometown of Alice Springs that showcases the latest in contemporary Aussie rock and features the natural beauty of modern Aboriginal Art. I want my festival to celebrate the rich landscape of the Central Australian outback.”

Tamlyn has found the experience both challenging and rewarding. “The Certificate IV has given me the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the local music scene, working with major events from Groovin’ the Moo to Blenheim Festival,” Miss Neck said. “It’s allowed me to build a network of music industry connections and has provided me with a platform where I can work towards building my own music event and business in a supportive and encouraging environment.”

Throughout the year students learn to develop their biographies and media releases as well as learn about the roles and responsibilities of a self-managed artist. Students are able to create a design portfolio of visual promotional material as well as developing a viable marketing plan. Participants learn about issues surrounding copyright through case studies and explore emerging music technologies. A focus is given towards career pathways options as well as budgeting and occupational health and safety.

Tamlyn is looking forward to her future prospects and recommends the course for anyone looking to broaden their horizons. “Music SA courses can help you to establish your own foundation in any sector of the music industry you wish to pursue with their expert advice, support and assistance.”

Certificate IV in Music Industry courses resume on Monday 17th July (full-time) and Tuesday 18th July (part-time). The Certificate IV courses support students at all stages of study that are passionate about studying all aspects of the music industry.

All courses are located in the heart of the CBD at St. Paul’s Creative Centre, a collaborative co-working space for South Australian creative industries and arts sectors.  Classes are conducted in St. Paul’s training rooms and creative spaces.

Still unsure of your study plans for next year and want to broaden your education in a fun and creative environment?  Limited places are still open for VET, school leavers and adult learners in the Certificate IV in Music Industry course.
