From a tobacconist to the home of cabaret, La Boheme has a long history in Grote Street. Charles Edward Tunney’s tobacco store nearly had an 100 year run, starting in 1910 and enduring as a family business right up until 2004. In 2005 it opened by the Boylon brothers as a “Bohemian style Cocktail and Cabaret Lounge with the atmosphere of a turn of the century Parisian Salon de Cocktail,” and it’s never looked back.

Known for hosting a range of productions including burlesque, jazz, DJs, album launches, comedy, theatre etc it now boasts two performance areas (both in use during Fringe), with 55 seated capacity Main Stage (Main Room) and 40 seater Cabinet Room (Upstairs).

The venue is the hub of the Cabaret Fringe Festival every June, and is the founding venue of the festival. From 2009, every Wednesday has featured an original modern Jazz night with local act New Cabal, one of Adelaide’s most successful and long running residencies for the genre.

As expected La Boheme features prominently in the Fringe cabaret program, and also has a string of dates for the Music category.
