Jive is a west end institution, and a home for live music since 2003.

Originally opened as a Gentlemen’s Club called The Baygonue in the late 1950s, the building was also well known as La Belle in the ’70s. It was very popular as Toucan Tou in the ’80s, and had many other incarnations in between.

Having hosted such national and international acts as The Cat Empire, Missy Higgins, Passenger, Courtney Barnett, The Presets, The Gossip, Eskimo Joe, Xavier Rudd, Josh Pyke, Marlon Williams, Megan Washington, Ball Park Music, Bob Log III, Jive is great for live music from both a punter and performer’s point of view.

Jive-Audience-OwlEyesThe fact is was built and designed as a strip club means it has great site lines to the stage. You can see from every aspect of the building, with no dead corners, which makes it quite aesthetically pleasing.

Licensed for 300, Jive caters to most formats, with audience ranging from 18 – 60, and it has housed official Fringe Fest live music events on and off for 12 years.

For 2016, Max Savage is the man to see at Jive, as he takes on a couple of personas for some tribute shows.

He first takes on Bruce Springsteen’s 1975 classic album, Born to Run, lending his own swagger and dynamic vocals.

A fan of Van Morrison as well, Max and an all-star band present the seminal work Astral Weeks IN FULL, for a special one-off performance.
