“Live music sells more tickets than all the sporting events combined.” There’s a statement that should get some attention!

Some of the biggest organisations in the Australian music business – AMIN, APRA AMCOS, Music Australia, AIR & AAM – are calling on the Federal Government to take a cross-portfolio approach to funding our industry.

In a recent press release, the co-signatories are appealing to the Federal Arts Minister to “help to establish a Federal, cross-portfolio taskforce dedicated to ensuring the future success of the contemporary popular music industry.”

The release goes on to describe the state of the music in the nation, and it quotes some impressive figures: “According to a 2013 study by Music Australia, the contemporary music industry in Australia is worth an estimated $7-8 billion to the national economy every year.”

The appeal has been enjoying widespread coverage of late, and watch this space for news on further developments.
