Following on from our April Business Fundamentals workshop comes the Creating & Marketing Events workshop on Wednesday 22 May (5:30pm start), brought to you by the MusicSA Industry Development team. 

This workshop will cover all the basics on creating & marketing events, so that when you are ready to start putting on your own shows, be it in a normal venue, or a non traditional music space, or even starting your own small festival, you’ll know how to go about it.

We’ll go over two key areas of strategies: booking & logistics, and event marketing.

  • how to book a space and what to look for
  • Creating unique experiences for fans
  • how to advance your show
  • basic staffing requirements
  • production considerations
  • settlements

Event marketing strategies including:

  • announce strategies
  • setting ticket prices
  • presale promotions
  • digital marketing strategy

  • traditional press and promotion
  • creating demand through underplaying
  • social media strategy

Sharni has a long and storied history of thinking outside of the traditional box when it comes to events and creating unique performance spaces and experiences for artists and audiences alike.

Sharni Honor is a wildly passionate woman of the music and arts industries, living and working on Kaurna Country. With over 10 years of music industry experience, she has spent the majority of that time running a series of award winning creative businesses, including  The Porch Sessions & Porchland Festival, alongside stints at Womadelaide & Adelaide Festival.In 2024, she spends her days as the co-director of creative space and live music venue in the suburbs, Summertown Studio and as the director of record store, label and & live show curator’s, Porch Records. From the marketing side, Bel Caruso founder and owner of Rebel Yell will bring her unbelievable wealth of experience in creating and delivering strategies from artists to events to festivals.

Bel is the visionary founder and driving force behind Rebel Yell, a dynamic music marketing and publicity consultancy based in Adelaide, South Australia. With 18 years of industry experience gained from key roles at prestigious festivals, events, and venues including the Adelaide Fringe, Adelaide Festival Centre, Adelaide Entertainment Centre, and South Australian Living Artists Festival, Bel has cultivated an extensive network and specialised expertise in promoting independent artists, live events, and music venues.

Since its official launch in early 2021, Rebel Yell has orchestrated impactful event campaigns for notable events such as The Garden of Unearthly Delights, the Adelaide Beer & BBQ Festival, Carclew, Cabaret Fringe Festival, Space Jams (live-streaming-turned-real-life festival), and The South Australian Music Awards, and has worked closely with artists including The Empty Threats and Rocky’s Pride and Joy.

Will there be time for questions?
The workshops have a portion of time built in for a Q&A session at the end. Please try and save your questions till then.

How long do the workshops go for?
We aim for 1 hour.

Will there be a record of information shared during the workshop?
MusicSA will email all attendees a summary of important links, contacts or info shared in the following days after the workshop.

Can I arrive late/leave early?
If something comes up and you have to miss a small portion of the session, we’d rather you be there than miss it completely. If you’re arriving no more than 15 minutes late or leaving no more than 15 minutes early, that’s totally fine, but you may miss some key details.

Can I attend if I am under 18 years old?
Yes! Please make sure you are accompanied by a guardian.

I’m not a musician but I want to get into the music industry/learn more. Can I attend?
Absolutely!
