SA GRANTS AND OPPORTUNITIES: AUGUST ROUND UP

Adelaide is a city designed for life. As a UNESCO City of Music, Adelaide has an international reputation for its dynamic city culture with year-round cultural festivals, street performances, public art, live music, and cultural programs. Artists, musicians, and artisans are an essential part of city life enabling healthy, diverse and prosperous communities through their work.

Arts & Cultural Grants and Cultural Strategic Partnerships support eligible individuals and organisations to deliver creative arts and cultural projects that enable Adelaide’s vision for a Creative City and contribute to the delivery of City of Adelaide’s Strategic Plan.

The Arts & Cultural Grants and Cultural Strategic Partnerships are funded across five priority areas in line with the City of Adelaide Cultural Strategy:

• Cultural Identity
• Cultural Economy
• Connected Cultural Community
• Cultural Incubation
• Cultural Experiences

City of Prospect, through its Community Grants Program, provides the opportunity for locally based community groups to receive funding to support their activities/programs that benefit the Prospect community in the following areas:

• Small Equipment Purchase – $1,000

Contributing to the purchase of equipment to support an organisation’s activities.

• Community Development Program – $2,000

Supporting new projects and activities involving and developing the local community.

• Facilities Improvement – $2000

Contributing to the maintenance and improvement of local community facilities. Prior approval must be sought from Council for any improvement to Council owned property.

• Small Community Event – $2,000

Supporting events, held in City of Prospect, with broad appeal to both the local and wider community.

• Environmental Grants – $2,000

Supporting community projects that focus on addressing our City’s impact on the environment in the areas of waste management, water usage, energy efficiency, transport and biodiversity. Innovative ideas and positive environmental projects that respond to the impacts of climate change, and benefit the local environment and our community will be highly regarded.

Significant projects that are being undertaken in partnership with other community organisations may be eligible to apply for up to $5,000 of funding in any of the above categories.

The Adelaide Fringe Artist Fund raises funds and redistributes donations received into the Fringe Foundation to artists, venues and producers participating in the festival. Adelaide Fringe encourage bold ideas to take shape, to elevate diverse voices, and support all forms of expression which enrich our festival offerings.

This funding round is to support artists, South Australian producers and South Australian venue operators to present work in Adelaide Fringe 2023.

Emerging South Australian artists and producers (first five years of practice) and world premiere work will be prioritised.

Green Music have created a wonderful resource, Sound Country – a green guide for artists making change.

Musicians have a platform and a voice, so we’ve got a role to play in both doing what’s right and in speaking up about it. With power comes responsibility, as they say. Green Music want to help you use your cultural power well.

That’s what Sound Country is about: for thousands of generations, the music of this continent was connected to Country, in spirit and action. We’re here to support musicians to reconnect, realign and reinspire that ancient and still-breathing purpose.

The Music Writer’s Lab is an initiative to amplify the development of a new generation of music critics. It seeks to facilitate critical discussion of music culture, and explore new distribution partnerships. It also exists to celebrate established critics and create a deep appreciation for Australian writing and music.

The program is designed to support and develop the critical perspectives of people of marginalised voices, including women, non-binary people, and all gender identities from across Australia.

In its pilot year, The Music Writer’s Lab will debut at BIGSOUND 2022.

A selected group of emerging writers participate in a mentor program, where they will connect and work with three established Australian music journalists and industry figures.

Across these mentoring sessions, the mentees will learn key skills and develop unique content while engaging in discussions surrounding relevant and poignant topics through an accompanying presentation series.

The MDO Project Support Grants (PSGs) supports local musicians and music businesses with creative and business development projects. The PSGs offer two streams of funding to support musicians to continue their creative development and to help sustain music businesses in the South Australian contemporary music sector.

You may apply for ONE of these funding streams per round, with eligible activity for this round being from 1 October 2022 until 30 September 2023.

Stream A: Creative Development. Grants of up to $15,000 to support recording and performing artists, songwriters, producers and artist managers (on behalf of their artists) in the creation and/or release of new original music composition or content.

Stream B: Business Development. Grants of up to $15,000 to support recording studios, promoters, record labels, booking agents, live music venues, artist managers, self-managed artists and other music entrepreneurs, businesses or organisations with their efforts to facilitate the creation, presentation, production or delivery of original music.
