Traveller & Fortune Biography

Traveller & Fortune

Genre:Acoustic, Experimental, Folk

Traveller & Fortune play bittersweet folk songs. Lilting melodies, subtle and soaring harmonies, guitars, double bass, keys, ukulele, sax drums and mandolin combine to create something unique: Something big and dark and folky; something whimsical; something that would tie itself to a bunch of helium balloons and try to fly.

Honestly, I haven’t heard Australian indie-folk ever been done this well. I love everything about it.” – Timber & Steel, April 2011

The band of multi-instrumentalists strive to create song-scapes that are at times moody or at times uplifting, rich with harmony and melody. Traveller & Fortune’s performances are honest and nuanced but maintain the spirit of whence the band started out: spontaneous late night shows in the low lit bars of Adelaide.

Traveller & Fortune formed in late 2009, due to an injury in another band. After spate of haphazard gigs full of ad-hoc harmonies, not so witty banter and more than a little toe-tapping the band was born.

Striking while the iron was hot, the newly-formed group spent the earnings of the previous months’ work on getting their ideas down. Their 2010 self titled EP was recorded in live sessions over a few days worth of recording in Adelaide and earned recognition on Triple J Radio's 'Home and Hosed' program. 2011 has seen the band develop further and 2012 bodes well with shows and conferences scheduled across Australia, and further!
